Western Mountaineering

When you are out in the backcountry few things can affect your trip as much as your sleeping bag. That is why we carry Western Mountaineering bags, they have been building the best down sleeping bags for over 30 years. Founded by two Northern California mountaineers, these bags are the lightest and warmest bags out there. Whether car camping in Yellowstone National Park or through-hiking the Continental Divide Trail, Western Mountaineering sleeping bags are Nothing but the best between you and the elements.

Design

Western Mountaineering designs its bags with subtle features that add up to make all the difference. Features like the differential cut and reverse differential hood keep you snug and comfortable while side block baffles and a full down collar give you the extra insulation you really need during cold mountain nights.

Materials

Western Bags are made with the best materials on the market. Their 850 plus fill power goose down is the highest lofting premium goose down available and is independently tested to ensure its rating. Along with that they use lightweight water resistant microfiber with high thread counts to keep the elements out but maintain its breathe-ability. Western Mountaineering also uses Gore Windstopper technology in select sleeping bags and clothing, providing a wind proof and highly water resistant membrane that continues to breathe as your body warms.

Construction

All Western Mountaineering Products are made in the United States with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturer's defects in materials or craftsmanship.

Western Mountaineering Staff Review

When I started selling Western Mountaineering at Northern Lights, I knew I had to have one. They are, without a doubt, the best bags made. And, get this, they're made in the USA. I like supporting those small companies that try to keep their business local. And I love being able to point to gear in my pack and say, "yup, made in the US."

My favorite Western story is from my trip to Nepal last year. I spent 24 hours straight in my Kodiak because I ate bad Dal Bhat somewhere near Gokyo. I made some extremely cold trips to the hole in the ground that served as the toilet, but every time I returned to my bag I warmed up immediately. My sleeping bag was my only companion through that horrible ordeal. And I'm glad it was a Western.
